The MMFA will have 4 exhibitions on display during the spring-summer season of 2022. The spring season will start with Yann Pocreau – Impermanencies at the beginning of April. It will be one of two monographic exhibitions. The work highlights the artist's photographic exploration of cosmology. The following artist Caroline Monnet will present Ninga Mineh, a work that depicts the living conditions of Canadian indigenous communities. The season will be closed out by Riopelle: The Call of Northern Landscapes and Indigenous Cultures and GRAFIK! Five Centuries of German and Austrian Graphics.
Yann Pocreau was born in 1980 in Quebec City. He currently lives in Montreal. His works have been displayed in various exhibitions around the world in Canada, the U.S. and Europe. Most of his work explores different themes through mediums such as photography, sculpture, and installation art. Impermanencies is a culmination of work done between 2016-2018. The work explores astronomy and the questioning that arises when staring into the cosmos.
Caroline Monnet is a multidisciplinary artist of Anishinaabe and French descent from Outaouais, Quebec. Her work explores the concept of identity and is the artist’s first solo exhibition being held at the MMFA. Many of her installations use raw construction materials, tar paper and membrane insulation; the goal of her work highlighting the harsh living environments and inequalities of Indigenous communities in Canada.

Jean-Paul Riopelle was mostly known for being an abstract artist from Isle-aux-Grues. He started off with painting and sculpting, however, in the 1950s, he stopped painting and started to use a spatula which made his art more abstract. While he was in Paris, George Duthuit, a French writer, introduced him to surrealism which got him interested. One of his works “ Vent du Nord” was an abstract art piece was sold for $7.4 million, which became the second highest amount sold for a Canadian art piece.
Grafik! Five is an exhibit featuring of around 90 different artworks coming from Germany and Austria. It will display works coming from the 15th century. You may even recognize some of the artist featured at the exhibit. Since this exhibit has a lot of artists, you will be able to see different art movements and how they were presented at that time. It will be a walk through history. The artists involved are: Israhel van the young, Martin Schongauer, Albrecht Durer, Jakob Philipp Hackert, Carl Wilhelm Kolbe the Eleder, Julius Schnorr von Carolfeld, Hans Makart, Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele, Emil Nolde, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Erich Heckel, Otto Dix, Max Beckmann, Max Pechstein, Karl Schmidt-Rottluff, Otto Mueller, George Grosz, Franz Marc, Wassily Kandinsky, Georg Baselitz and Michael Wolgemut.
